I was thinking about this song that came on the radio (KLOVE). Part of the song says “I’ve been going around trying to figure out the meaning to this life.” which struck an idea and I thought to myself “why are you going around looking for the meaning of your life?” The bible is perfectly clear about the meaning of our life. It’s God’s command for us to go and make disciples of all nations (Matt 28:19). And I thought maybe sometimes the “nation” God is really talking about is your family or maybe your nation is your workplace or maybe it’s your school. So you would agree that the world is made up of different nations right?. So when we think about our world, you know when people say “change the world around you”, I believe that means to try and change everyone we come in contact with on a regular basis. That’s the world, and then within that world we have our different groups we go to (work, school, family, church) these would probably be the primary things and we can refer to these as our nations.
I believe that if we all had this mentality that our nations are simply just the small groups we go to that are in our small worlds, then I think we could take Matt 28:19 literally. A lot of times when I’ve read that passage I thought to myself “I need to go to another part of the US or I need to go to a foreign country to go and make disciples of a nation. I believe God’s wants us to do that too, but not all of us are ready to go to another country or maybe some of us don’t want to go to another country or a different part of the US(which is a different topic anyway). But if we just took the time to start with our small nations that make up our world, if we just started there and we began to change the lives of the people in our nations and then ultimately we would change the lives of the people in our worlds we would be changing our world and I can’t help but to think that if we started with something smaller like that, with just the people we could influence directly, then 1) I think God would bless us because we are being obedient to what He has commanded us to do 2) I think we as we see the change in the people in our nations and our world then maybe we would have a “want” to go, a desire to literally go to another country or another part of the US to reach people for Jesus. I think it can start with something small with the people right here around us, people we have contact with on a regular basis. I’m not so sure I have scripture to back up what I just said, but I know for sure that scripture is clear on what we are suppose to do.
We know the meaning of this life; we know what we are supposed to do. You don’t have go around wandering what you’re suppose to do with your life. I believe somebody needs to hear that. I think we have a generation of young people that aren’t being guided and directed properly by the adults In their lives and not only that, but they aren’t being taught how to figure out what they are suppose to do with their lives which is why we have such a high teen suicide rate. Teens aren’t learning or figuring out what to do with themselves and they feel pointless like their life has no meaning, but I’m here to tell you that your life does have meaning. Your life does have a plan, it does have a future, and it has a hope. You can’t buy it, you can’t stumble across it, you can’t just fall into it, you have to accept it, and you have to reach out and grab onto it and hold on with both hands as if it were the only thing in your life left to do. You need to embrace it and grow in it. You need to surround yourself with people in your life that will help you grow in the life God has for you.
Now I know what I’m talking about here isn’t the only thing to this life. I get that, but outside of making the decision to follow Christ or not, it is probably one of the most important things we can do as Christ followers. My hope is that this post will encourage and challenge you to go out and make a difference in your world for Christ. Joshua 1:7 says “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.” You can do the work God has called you to do. Put your trust in him and let him use you in great ways to change your world. BLESSINGS!!
